DDM Social Welfare and Charity Foundation to Inquire into the Quake-Stricken Areas in Myanmar to Provide Disaster Relief

A powerful earthquake struck Myanmar on March 28th, 2025, causing extensive damage, including building collapses and heavy casualties in its south-central region. The neighboring country Thailand was also affected. After learning the news, Dharma Drum Mountain (DDM) Social Welfare and Charity Foundation (here referred to as "the Foundation"), immediately enacted its post-disaster emergency response. In order to keep abreast of the situation in the earthquake-stricken areas, the Foundation actively liaised with domestic and international disaster relief organizations, local charities in Myanmar and Thailand, Taiwanese business people in Myanmar, compatriots and students from Myanmar in Taiwan. Mandalay, the second-largest city in Myanmar, was hit the hardest. In addition to water and electricity supply disruption, the signal reception in Mandalay has been deemed as unstable. In order to understand the situation better, Ven. Chang Xing (常惺法師), Secretary General of the Foundation, will lead a delegation to the disaster-stricken areas in early April to inquire into the damages there. Moreover, in order to provide subsequent relief to the earthquake stricken people and help them to calm their body and mind, the Foundation is assessing the procurement of emergency supplies such as basic necessities and medical dressings that are urgently needed in the earthquake zone.

Furthermore, the Foundation will draw on its previous experience in international disaster relief to evaluate the collaboration with local charity organizations in Myanmar, as well as combine the resources of Taiwanese business people in Myanmar, with the assistance of concerned local people to deliver the financial aid and supplies to the disaster area in a secure and effective manner. According to the Foundation, they will make rolling adjustments for the follow-up relief strategy to adapt to the actual situation of the disaster-stricken areas in Myanmar.

Because of the Foundation's year-long dedication to providing domestic and overseas disaster relief, the Foundation has the "Disaster Relief" program under its donation usages, and the funds under this program are all dedicated to disaster relief at home and abroad. Anyone wishing to help the earthquake-stricken areas in Myanmar can make a donation to the Foundation's Disaster Relief program using the information at the bottom of the following page: https://www.dharmadrum.org/portal_b8_cnt.php?folder_id=23.

DDM Social Welfare and Charity Foundation appeals to everyone to pray for the earthquake-stricken people in Myanmar and for their well-being during this difficult time.
