DDM Disaster Relief Team's Second Tour to Send Urgent Medical Supplies to Mandalay
Since the strong earthquake in Myanmar on March 28th, 2025, the disaster areas have been in urgent need of all kinds of supplies, especially medical ones. The Dharma Drum Mountain (DDM) Social Welfare and Charity Foundation (herein referred to as "the Foundation"), thus formed its second disaster relief team, which was led by Ven. Chang Xing (常惺法師), Secretary General of the Foundation, and Ven. Yan Dao (演道法師), Dean for Student Affairs of Dharma Drum Sangha University (DDSU). On April 10th, the Venerables, full-time staff members, and volunteers brought daily necessities and medical supplies purchased from Yangon to visit Mandalay and the more severely affected areas to provide supplies. On April 10th, Ven. Yan Dao, accompanied by Yang Bing-jie (楊冰潔), Deputy Director of Mandalay Kongjiao School, went to the People's Children's Hospital to donate medical supplies and visit the 12 children and 2 sramaneras (novice monks) who were injured in the earthquake. In addition to expressing his appreciation for the medical staff for their dedication, Ven. Yan Dao also sent blessings to the injured patients and their families one by one. During his visit, Ven. Yan Dao encouraged everyone by suggesting that the difficulties in life are good reminders to help us recognize the impermanence of life, allowing us to better cherish ourselves and our loved ones.
Later, Ven. Yan Dao traveled to the private Mingalar Hospital to visit Teacher Chang from Kongjiao School Northern Campus who was injured in the earthquake. Teacher Chang is a third-generation overseas Chinese in Myanmar, who once studied at National Taiwan University. After returning to Myanmar, she devoted herself to Chinese language education. The teachers and students of Kongjiao School are very grateful for her dedication, and the school is arranging for her to receive better medical treatment in Taiwan. Ven. Yan Dao presented a cash supplement on behalf of DDM, wishing that Teacher Chang would gradually recover with the professional care of doctors and nurses and the company of her family, and return to school soon to continue to nurture the next generation. Before his hospital visits, Ven. Yan Dao, together with volunteers and full-time staff members, went to Kongjiao School again to give away daily necessities. In addition, he led all the volunteers from Taiwan and Myanmar to chant the name of Guanyin Bodhisattva in front of the collapsed buildings, dedicating the merits to all sentient beings in the disaster areas and wishing the school a smooth reconstruction soon.
