DDM Prays and Dedicates Merit for the Victims of the Wang Fuk Court Fire in Tai Po, Hong Kong

On November 26, a severe fire broke out at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po, New Territories, Hong Kong, resulting in heavy casualties, with more than a hundred people still missing.

On the day of the incident, Dharma Drum Mountain Hong Kong Center immediately started chanting the Great Compassion Mantra to bless the deceased and those affected. Coincidentally, Dharma Drum Mountain World Center for Buddhist Education was holding the Great Compassion Water and Land Dharma Assembly at that time. After receiving the news, the DDM monastic community promptly set up memorial tablets for the victims. Starting from the 26th, at the conclusion of each day’s ritual, the presiding monastics at each altar lead both on-site and online participants in dedicating the merit to those who passed away in the fire and to all suffering and afflicted residents. Dharma Drum Mountain's official social media platforms also launched a prayer campaign, wishing the deceased peace, the injured relief from suffering, and safety and smooth efforts for frontline rescue personnel.

"As long as we still have one breath left, there is infinite hope." The Abbot President Venerable Guo Huei called on the public to join in blessing Hong Kong, offering prayers and support to the victims through both intention and action. The Abbot President emphasized that life is impermanent and the world is fragile. Precisely because of this, we must cherish every moment and make good use of what we can do, bringing more warmth to society. In the face of disaster, the Abbot President urged those less affected to give more strength, and those untouched to extend a helping hand—assisting the affected communities in promptly rebuilding and accompanying the victims through their hardships.
