Illuminating the World and Build a Pure Land on Earth — Dharma Drum Mountain to Hold Lamp Transmission Ceremony on 2/28 in Repaying Master Sheng Yen’s kindness

The ninth day of the first lunar month marks "Dharma Drum Passing on the Lamp Day," commemorating the passing of Master Sheng Yen, founder of Dharma Drum Mountain. In 2026, the monastic and lay members of Dharma Drum Mountain will hold the "Rising Great Compassion, Vows Continue Unceasingly — Dharma Drum Passing on the Lamp Ceremony" in remembrance of Master Sheng Yen's boundless kindness. The ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, February 28, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

This year's Passing on the Lamp Ceremony will be centered at the Dharma Drum Mountain World Center for Buddhist Education (main venue opens for entry at 1:30 p.m.). Buddha-recitation and lamp transmission activities will be held simultaneously at affiliated branches including Yunji Monastery, Baoyun Monastery, Hsinchu Practice Center, Zhaiming Monastery, Zhaiming Branch Monastery, Tiannan Monastery, Nung Chan Monastery, Anhe Branch Monastery, Lanyang Branch Monastery, Hualien Branch Monastery, Xinxing Monastery, Ziyun Monastery, as well as the Dharma Drum Singapore, the Dharma Drum Mountain Association of Dharma Supporters in Thailand, and the Dharma Drum Mountain Hong Kong Centre. Dharma Drum Mountain Buddhist Centre Malaysia and Dharma Drum Mountain Vancouver Center will also hold gratitude activities on February 28 in remembrance of the Master's compassion and teachings.

Dharma Drum Mountain stated that making good use of the Buddhadharma to transform oneself and inspire others—guided by the principle of "uplifting the character of humanity and building a Pure Land on Earth"—is the best way to express gratitude to Master Sheng Yen. Dharma Drum Mountain sincerely invites members of the public to participate in the local Passing on the Lamp Ceremony and make the vow to become a bright lamp on the path of learning the Buddha's teachings—one that illuminates the way for others and brings warmth to the world.
