Dharma Drum Mountain Donates to the Buddhist Institute of Nine Dragons Temple in Myanmar and Signs Memorandum of Understanding

On March 26, Venerable Chang Xing (常惺法師), Secretary General of Dharma Drum Mountain Social Welfare and Charity Foundation, led a delegation to the Su Mon La Monastic Academy in Mandalay to visit Venerable Bhaddanta Rajinda, Chan master from Nine Dragons Temple. On behalf of Dharma Drum Mountain’s monastic and lay community, Venerable Chang Xing donated funds to support and care for the resident children.
The Buddhist Institute of Nine Dragons Temple in Myanmar houses more than 800 orphans, ranging from kindergarten to junior high school. The students include novice monks, Eight-Precept Nuns, and lay pupils. The institution provides food, shelter, and educational opportunities. Through the signing of this memorandum of understanding, both parties aim to strengthen mutual cooperation in areas such as charitable care and humanitarian aid, educational support, and religious and cultural exchange.
Following the signing ceremony, Venerable Chang Xing presented the donated funds from the Dharma Drum Mountain Sangha, with the hope of supporting the Buddhist institute’s charitable and educational missions. Gifts were also exchanged with Venerable Bhaddanta Rajinda, and prayer beads were distributed to the children present. Venerable Rajinda then accompanied Venerable Chang Xing, along with Yang Hanyin (楊涵茵), Principal of Mandalay Kongjiao School East Area, Chen Chengwen (陳成文), Principal of the South and New Area, and others, on a tour of the campus and its halls to better understand the facilities and operations.Deeply moved by the sight of many displaced children being cared for through the compassionate vows of the local monastics, Venerable Chang Xing expressed great admiration for Venerable Bhaddanta Rajinda. He praised the venerable as a person of profound compassion and vast aspiration, whose great vows have made it possible to establish such a large Buddhist institute—educating children, transmitting the Dharma, and embodying the spirit of great vows.

Dharma Drum Mountain Social Welfare and Charity Foundation noted that this connection was made possible thanks to the introduction of lay practitioner Lin Caijian (林才鑒), a survivor of the collapse of the Great Wall Hotel during the March 28 earthquake in Myanmar last year. At the end of 2025, Venerable Bhaddanta Rajinda also visited Taiwan and made a special trip to Nung Chan Monastery. Dharma Drum Mountain prays that Myanmar, the land of the Buddha, will move toward a brighter and more hopeful future through the joint efforts of the monastic and lay communities.
