Taiwan’s Representative to Singapore Tung Chen-yuan Leads Delegation to Visit Dharma Drum Mountain, Experiencing Chinese Chan Teachings

On the morning of April 18, Tung Chen-yuan (童振源), Taiwan's Representative to Singapore, led a delegation of nearly 50 individuals from Singapore's business and cultural sectors on a visit to the Dharma Drum Mountain World Center for Buddhist Education. The visit also specially included Singapore's Representative to Taiwan, Foo Teow Lee (符秀麗). Together, they were warmly received by Venerable Guo Dong (果東法師), former Abbot President of Dharma Drum Mountain (DDM), and Venerable Chang Yuan (常遠法師), Director in Chief of the DDM Sangha.

The group first attended an introductory session in the Briefing Room, where Venerable Guo Dong gave a talk explaining Dharma Drum Mountain’s vision of promoting Buddhist education and spiritual environmentalism. They then visited the Wishing-Fulfilling Guanyin Hall, the Main Hall, and the Chan Hall. Under the guidance of Venerable Chang Yuan, the visitors also experienced Chan meditation firsthand, gaining insight into the spirit of Chinese Chan practice—maintaining a peaceful and easeful mind in both movement and stillness. In the tranquil and pure surroundings, the visitors were able to relax both body and mind, leaving them deeply impressed by Dharma Drum Mountain's integration of education, Buddhist practice, and humanistic care.

Representative Tung expressed strong appreciation for Dharma Drum Mountain's ideals and has previously led multiple delegations from Singapore to visit. Representative Foo, who formerly served as Singapore's Ambassador to France and has been in Taiwan for about three months, was visiting Dharma Drum Mountain for the first time and also experienced Chan meditation for the first time. She spoke highly of the serene and stable atmosphere of the Center, noting that if the opportunity arises in the future to return to Singapore, she would visit the Dharma Drum Mountain Singapore Center.
