Event Description

This in-person weekend retreat has a simple program that provides you the opportunity to practice in mindful silence. This allows you to more easily settle your mind and maintain awareness of your every activity.

The weekend schedule will consist of 30-45 minute periods of sittings (5 – 7 sittings per day) interspersed with guided gentle yoga and walking meditations. The retreat also offers a review of basic meditation methods (such as awareness of the breath), and brief Dharma talks.

Requirements to Attend

  • Have attended a formal meditation class or attended a 1-day retreat
  • Have experience with meditation, are able to lead yourself in a 30-minute silent meditation without instruction, and ideally have a routine meditation practice
  • Commitment to the entire duration of the retreat

Teacher
Yan Xi Fashi

Venerable Yan Xi first encountered Chan meditation during his college years, when he began searching for a path to understand and transform human suffering. Through the teachings of Venerable Master Sheng Yen, he came to realize that Chan practice has the power to transform the mind, enabling one to face life’s challenges with wisdom, clarity, and a renewed perspective.

Motivated to deepen his practice, Venerable Yan Xi left his professional career in Macao and traveled to Taiwan to pursue the monastic path. He joined the monastic community of Dharma Drum Mountain in August 2016 and later completed a six-year training program in Chan Meditation Practice at Dharma Drum Sangha University.

He previously served as a Buddhist minister at the International Chan Retreat Center of Dharma Drum Mountain in Taiwan. He currently serves as a resident monastic at the Dharma Drum Retreat Center in New York, where he leads retreats and teaches Dharma programs.
