Experience sharing
Finding Clarity in the Present——DDYP Meditation Event
I'm so grateful for the opportunity to experience different forms of meditation during this special event, held on September 7 at Dharma Drum Vancouver Centre.
During our sharing period, I reflected on the tea ceremony and the impact it had on me. While it was happening, I felt deeply present — fully immersed in the sights, sounds, and sensations. Yet, when I shared my experience afterward, I realized how quickly that moment had slipped away. It already felt distant, almost as if it had never existed at all. This brought up a big question for me: What does the past truly mean? If life only ever happens in the present moment, does the past mean nothing? And if so, what does that say about who I am?
I've always felt that who I am today is shaped by everything I've been through — all the experiences, challenges, and memories that have led me here. I don't want to disregard that, but I've also come to see that the past doesn't have to define me or limit how I live right now.
At first, this realization felt overwhelming. But through discussion with the group, I found clarity: it's not about what the past means. What matters most is this present moment — seeing life as it truly is, right here and now, and recognizing that I have the freedom to choose who I am in each moment.
